Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters
About the Program
HIPPY is a home-visiting program that helps newcomer mothers prepare their preschool-aged children for school. Through weekly guidance, learning materials and simple activities families can do together, mothers build confidence supporting their child’s learning and development.
The program makes learning part of everyday family life while strengthening parent-child relationships and helping families feel more connected to their community.
Our impact
- Weekly home visits provide personalized coaching and support.
- Families receive more than 30 activity packets each year.
- The program supports stronger parent-child relationships, greater parental confidence and improved school readiness.
Program includes:
- Home visits: Weekly support from a trained Home Visitor.
- Learning activities: Fun exercises covering reading, language, math, science, motor skills and play.
- Learning materials: Children’s books, educational toys and activity packets for use at home.
- Group meetings: Gatherings where mothers can share experiences, learn and build friendships.
- Settlement support: Help with school or clinic registration, forms and connections to community services.
What participants gain:
Greater confidence supporting a child’s learning and development at home. Children build foundational skills for school, while families strengthen their relationships, routines and community connections.

- Newcomer mothers and families with children ages three to five.
Learning Sessions
HIPPY children turn everyday moments at home into opportunities to learn. Through reading, writing, play and hands-on projects, they build the skills and confidence to begin school ready to thrive. Discover what your child can achieve with HIPPY.
Hippy Families
