Asha Farah, Secretary

My name is Asha Farah, I am an RN with over ten years experience in maternal and newborn nursing. I received my BSN degree from the University of Washington in Seattle, WA and a graduate degree MN-NP at the University of Alberta.

As a nurse, I understand the impacts of the social determinants of health and have witnessed the challenges and barriers immigrant families face. I recognize the possibilities and strength of communities with the right supports. I have experience at various non-profits in Seattle WA, and now here in Edmonton Alberta that focus on supporting marginalized communities.

I believe supporting immigrant women and families with community organizations such as AIWACC, we help to reduce disparities and improve equity to help families thrive in their resettlement journeys.

I feel fortunate to be a board member in an organization with dedicated and passionate staff that truly change lives everyday as they bring together people of different backgrounds to build a stronger community together.
It is this passion and the amazing response we see in the clients and community that motivates me to do better and ensure the families we serve are receiving the right services for them to be successful.
