About the Program
Understanding Canada’s financial system can make everyday decisions feel more manageable.
AIWCC’s classroom-style Financial Literacy Program helps newcomer women develop practical money-management skills, understand common financial products and plan more confidently for themselves and their families.
Program includes:
- Budgeting: Create a realistic budget based on your income, expenses and priorities.
- Managing spending: Learn how to track expenses and avoid spending more than you can afford.
- Saving money: Develop strategies for building savings and preparing for unexpected costs.
- Planning major purchases: Learn how to set goals and prepare financially for larger expenses.
- Banking in Canada: Explore different bank accounts and learn how to open and manage an account.
- Education savings: Learn about registered education savings plans, commonly known as RESPs.
- Understanding credit: Learn what a credit score is, why it matters and how to build healthy credit.
- Managing debt: Explore practical ways to organize and pay down debt.
What participants gain:
Participants gain a clearer understanding of banking, budgeting, saving, credit and debt in Canada. These skills can help women make informed financial decisions, advocate for themselves and work toward greater stability and long-term independence.

Newcomers looking to strengthen their money-management skills and save for the future.
