About the Program
Build a strong foundation in English for everyday life in Canada. AIWCC’s classroom-based English Language Learning Program helps newcomer women develop practical speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in a supportive learning environment. Lessons focus on communication participants can use at home, at work and throughout the community.
Program includes:
- Speaking: Practise everyday conversations and learn to express ideas more clearly.
- Listening: Strengthen your ability to understand questions, instructions and conversations.
- Reading: Build confidence reading signs, forms, messages and other practical materials.
- Writing: Practise writing sentences, messages and information used in daily life.
- Grammar and pronunciation: Learn how English words and sentences are formed and spoken.
- Vocabulary: Expand your knowledge of useful words and expressions.
- Real-life learning: Explore language used in community, education and employment situations.
What participants gain:
Participants gain foundational English skills and greater confidence communicating in everyday situations. Improved language skills can help women ask questions, access services, pursue education and employment, build relationships and feel more connected to their community.
Eligibility:
Newcomers, including foundational learners, who want to learn English or strengthen their existing language skills.
