Alberta Immigrant Women & Children Centre (AIWCC) is a registered charitable nonprofit organization in Edmonton, Alberta. We assist and support women and children in need, particularly focusing on the specific concerns of immigrant and refugee women and their families.
Job Summary
We are seeking dedicated, compassionate, and enthusiastic Summer Youth Workers to join our team. This role is central to delivering a vibrant summer program that supports the academic, social, and physical development of newcomer children and youth. The ideal candidates will play a vital role in creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment where all participants can thrive.
Duties
- Provide mentorship and support to children and adolescents, focusing on their individual needs and strengths.
- Develop and implement educational programs that promote learning, social skills, and personal growth.
- Facilitate group activities that encourage teamwork, communication, and problem-solving among participants.
- Monitor progress and provide feedback to youth on their development while maintaining accurate records of activities and outcomes.
- Create a positive atmosphere that encourages participation and fosters self-esteem among all youth.
- Deliver structured, age-appropriate activities in program areas such as wellness, arts & crafts, social skill building, educational activities, team building, games and/or creative challenges, life skills, technology related activities, etc.
- Educational and technology-based activities
- Establish positive and trusting relationships with children, youth, and families.
- Ensure safety and well-being of participants in both in-person and virtual settings.
- Support and supervise participants and volunteers.
- Conduct outreach and implement strategies to maintain strong attendance.
- Provide information sessions and workshops relevant to youth development.
- Model positive behavior and inclusive language.
- Report regularly to the Youth Program Coordinator

Qualifications and Experience :
- Previous experience working with children or adolescents in educational or recreational settings is preferred.
- Must be in post-secondary education
- Must be organized, punctual and reliable.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively engage with youth and collaborate with team members.
- Ability to educate youth on various topics related to personal development, social skills, and academic success.
- Being able to work independently and in a team setting.
- A passion for making a difference in the lives of young people through guidance, support, and encouragement.
- Must be willing to provide a clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening and Child intervention check prior to employment.
- Access to a reliable vehicle is an asset, as some program activities may take place at off-site locations.
