Case Manager

The Case Manager will deliver client-centered, strengths-based case management services to newly arrived government-assisted and privately sponsored refugees and newcomers settling in Edmonton. This role supports individuals and families with varying levels of need over a one- to two-year period, helping them navigate systems, access essential services, and build independence.

Working as part of AIWCC’s multidisciplinary team, the Case Manager will maintain a caseload and provide tailored support based on the complexity of each client’s needs, including regular check-ins, referrals, advocacy, accompaniment, and follow-up. Services are delivered using anti-oppressive, trauma-informed, and empowerment-based practices.

Key Responsibilities

Client Support & Case Management

  • Conduct initial intakes and comprehensive needs assessments using the needs assessment matrix.
  • Develop empowerment plans and complete ongoing assessments based on client progress and changing needs.
  • Provide case management services aligned with clients’ levels of need, including information orientation, referrals, accompaniment, home visits, follow-ups, and advocacy.
  • Deliver life skills support and crisis intervention as required.
  • Provide interpretation and translation support during service delivery and community appointments, when necessary.

Community Navigation & Collaboration

  • Facilitate referrals to a wide range of settlement, social, health, educational, and professional services across Edmonton.
  • Accompany clients to appointments and conduct regular in-person, virtual, and phone check-ins.
  • Liaise, collaborate, and advocate with internal AIWCC programs and external service providers to bridge service gaps.
  • Participate in internal and external case management meetings and coordinate program activities as required.

Documentation, Reporting & Evaluation

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and thorough client records in AIWCC’s case management database.
  • Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual service and statistical reports in accordance with program requirements.
  • Support ongoing monitoring and evaluation efforts, including recommending and implementing service delivery improvements.
  • Participate regularly in supervision, consultation, staff meetings, and training sessions.

Organizational Responsibilities

  • Adhere to AIWCC’s policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
  • Contribute to special events, special projects, and program-wide initiatives as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Program Manager.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Post-secondary degree in Social Work, Social Services, Counselling, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field
  • Minimum two (2) years of relevant experience working with newcomer, refugee, or other vulnerable populations.
  • Minimum two (2) years of case management experience; experience supporting individuals impacted by trauma is a strong asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with clients from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of settlement and integration processes and challenges faced by newcomers in Alberta and Canada.
  • Strong understanding of community programs, services, and resources in Edmonton.
  • Fluency in English (oral and written) required; proficiency in additional languages is a strong asset.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, time management, and coordination skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced, high-demand environment.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe, Outlook, and client database systems.
  • Non-violent crisis intervention and First Aid/CPR certification are assets.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is a strong asset.
  • Successful completion of Police Information Check and Child Intervention Check required.

Working Conditions:

  • Working from office environment.
  • Some evening or weekend work may be required to meet program needs.
  • Possession of a Class 5 driver’s license and vehicle.
  • Completion of a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.

Job Types: Full Time
Contact length: 1 year with potential extension
Expected hours of work: 37.5 per week plus group Health benefits package after the 3 months probation period
