Case Manager (Somali Speaker)

Job description
As the AIWCC Case Manager, you will deliver a client-centered case management service model to support newly arrived refugees/newcomers with their settlement in Edmonton. The Case Manager will each hold a case load, comprised of individuals and families, which they will assist to integrate into the community for a period of one to two years. The AIWCC Case Manager provides Case Management tailored to the complexity of the client’s barriers and needs, which includes regular check ins with the clients, appropriate referrals, and follow ups.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct initial intakes and needs assessments using the Needs Assessment Matrix, develop individualized settlement plans, provide weekly check-ins, and perform ongoing reassessments as needed.
  • Deliver case management services aligned with clients’ level of need, including assessments, information sessions, referrals, accompaniments, follow-ups, and advocacy—applying anti-oppressive, trauma-informed, and empowerment-based approaches.
  • Provide interpretation and translation support as needed during client appointments and direct service delivery in the community.
  • Offer orientation and referral services to a wide range of community, settlement, and social services across Edmonton tailored to client needs.
  • Conduct regular client check-ins and accompany clients to various community appointments for access to essential services and supports.
  • Support clients with life skills and provide crisis intervention when required.
  • Liaise, collaborate, and advocate with both internal programs and external service providers to bridge service gaps and support client integration.
  • Participate in internal and external case management meetings to ensure continuity of care.
  • Support and facilitate program activities as required.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of client cases using the Apricot case management software.
  • Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual service and statistical reports in line with program and funder requirements.
  • Assist in the ongoing monitoring and evaluation of the program; contribute to service delivery improvements and implement changes as needed.
  • Participate in regular supervision and case consultations with the Program Manager.
  • Adhere to AIWCC’s policies and procedures at all times.
  • Attend required staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Occasionally support special projects, events, and overall program initiatives outside of regular duties.

Qualifications

  • A post-secondary in Social Work, Settlement Studies, Psychology, Counselling, Human Services, or a related field. Preference will be given to candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience working with vulnerable or newcomer populations is required.
  • At least 2 years of case management experience supporting individuals with complex needs and trauma is a strong asset.
  • Fluency in Somali is a significant asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to support clients from diverse cultural backgrounds using culturally responsive and trauma-informed practices.
  • Strong understanding of the settlement and integration process, as well as the challenges faced by newcomers in Alberta/Canada.
  • In-depth knowledge of local community resources, programs, and service networks.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Proven ability to multi-task, remain calm in high-pressure situations, and manage competing priorities effectively.
  • A positive, flexible, and collaborative approach to working with clients and colleagues; proactive and self-motivated.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English is required.
  • Advanced computer literacy, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Adobe, and client management databases.
  • Non-violent crisis intervention training and First Aid/CPR certification are assets.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle for work purposes is a strong asset.
  • Clear Child Intervention Record Check and Police Information Check are mandatory.

Job Types: Full Time
Contract length: Until March 31,2026, with potential extension starting April 1,2026
Expected hours: 37.5 hours per week plus group benefits package after the 3 months probation period
