About the Program

Prepare for Canadian citizenship while learning more about the country, its people and its systems.

The Citizenship Preparation Program helps eligible newcomers understand the rights and responsibilities of citizenship and explore important topics about Canada in a supportive learning environment.

Program includes:

  • Rights and responsibilities: Learn what Canadian citizenship means and the responsibilities citizens share.
  • History and geography: Explore important events, regions and communities that have shaped Canada.
  • Indigenous peoples: Learn about the histories and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.
  • Government and elections: Understand Canada’s political system, levels of government and democratic process.
  • Justice and human rights: Learn about Canadian laws, individual rights and the justice system.
  • Economy: Explore how Canada’s economy works and the role citizens play within it.
  • Symbols and identity: Learn about Canadian symbols, traditions, religious diversity and modern life in Canada.

What participants gain:

A stronger understanding of Canada and greater confidence preparing for the citizenship process. The program also builds awareness of how to exercise citizenship rights, meet civic responsibilities and participate in the community.

Who we serve:

  • Immigrants and newcomers who are eligible to apply for Canadian citizenship and/or who are looking to learn more about the process.
